Build a Homemade Bait Tank

as always click on the pics for the full image

first you will need a plastic barrel, the one pictured is a 55 gal. I also built one out of a 30 gal barrel. Cut out the top of the barrel to the desired height. I cut about 10 inches off of mine. Drill a 7/8 inch hole near the bottom of the barrel, this will be the drain hole-Screw a 1/2 inch pvs glue on screw on fitting in this hole, then attach a garden hose type hose/fitting with a 4 or 5 foot section of hose-Drill another hole near the top for the water inlet. I used an old garden hose for the spray bar and zip tied it around the rim of the barrel, about 3/4 of an inch below the top (to allow room for the lid to set down inside the barrel. Drill 1/8 inch holes in the garden hose about every 4 inches(these will act as water jets). 1/2 inch pvc T with short nipples to hook the spray hose to and the intake hose to. then attach a bilge pump to the other end of the second hose. The outlet hose at the bottom keeps a circular flow of water and flushes some of the contaminates out of the tank-- the white tank allows light to penatrate and you can see the bait the 30 gal blue tank i made does not. As you will see in the photos, the height of the drain hose controlls the depth of the tank--to drain just make sure the end of the hose will reach below the bottom of the tank over the side of your boat.
